About

hello! i’m May

Welcome to Colors of May! After years of a full, busy life, I’m embracing a new chapter with more time for creativity, mindfulness, and joy.

For a long time, my days were shaped by deadlines, systems, and to-do lists that never seemed to end. I never thought of myself as a “creative person” — that wasn’t really part of the story I told about myself. But after retiring, with a little more open space in my days, I started experimenting. Pottery, painting, cooking — just to see. And somewhere in that experimenting, I discovered I actually loved making things with my hands. It surprised me as much as anyone.

These days, you’ll find me at my pottery wheel (though truthfully, I mostly hand-build — the wheel mainly comes out for trimming), mixing paint colors that never quite match what I pictured, and cooking meals that taste like comfort. I believe in finding beauty in the everyday — and sprinkling in a little humor along the way, because most of my “creative process” involves at least one small disaster.

I also spent years living abroad, which taught me that home isn’t really a place — it’s the little rituals you build wherever you land. These days, mine look like slow mornings, good light, and the quiet satisfaction of making something with my own two hands.

Join me at Colors of May as we explore mindful living, creative projects, and heartfelt reflections — inspiring you to embrace this vibrant season with warmth and creativity. Pull up a chair, pour something warm, and stay awhile. I’m so glad you’re here.

THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS…

  1. Always ready for the next trip
I love traveling — new places, different food, and wandering around a city just to see what I find.
  2. My favorite people are my happy place
Give me an evening with family or friends, lots of conversation, laughter, and preferably a good meal somewhere, and I’m happy.
  3. A little obsessed with organization
I love lists, planners, systems, and putting things in order — which is slightly ironic considering how many different directions my brain can go in at once.
  4. Making things is my newest surprise
Pottery, painting, cooking — I came to creativity later in life and discovered that I really love making things with my hands, even when they come out a little crooked.
